Shea butter processors association · Tamale, Northern Region
Under the Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment (GTI) Activity, funded by USAID

The challenge

Yumzaa Women’s Association is a women-led shea processing group in Tamale that produces high-quality shea butter with strong export potential. To reach premium EU and US markets, the group had to meet Organic and Fairtrade International standards, a demanding process that calls for documentation, traceability and group certification.

What we did

As a subcontractor under the GTI Activity, AgriServ Innovations provided end-to-end certification consultancy:

  • A detailed gap assessment for Organic and Fairtrade compliance
  • An Internal Control System (ICS) for the women’s group
  • All quality manuals, policies and traceability records
  • Training for more than 100 women processors and internal inspectors on organic handling, hygiene and Fairtrade principles
  • Internal inspections and full preparation for the external audit

The result

Yumzaa Women’s Association is now fully prepared and compliant for Organic and Fairtrade certification. That opens high-value international markets, better prices for their shea butter and higher incomes for women in Northern Ghana.

This project shows our experience in women-led agribusiness, the shea value chain and donor-funded certification projects. From local shea to global shelves.
